Avoid the Midas "Touch"

If you ever have a scheduled maintenance or a necessary repair - DO NOT GO TO MIDAS - go to the car dealership. I have never once had a problem with Toyota's work in the 8 years I have owned my car, but in the 4 times Midas has worked on my car, they have managed to reach new levels of incompetence.

More specifically, do not go to Midas at 752 Worcester Rd, Framingham, MA 01702

June 07 - I had been going to the Toyota dealership faithfully for the last 8 years until they diagnosed my car (with over 80,000 miles) with a P0420 code - catalytic converter failure. It was too costly to repair so I went to Midas which was half the price for labor and catalytic converter. What a mistake!

June 25, 2007 - Midas installed it. It never quite sounded the same as the original part. Would smell the Sulfur smell occasionally.

December 23, 2007 - 6 months later - Check engine light went on again - back to Midas - they diagnosed it as a failed converter - so the part they installed on 6/25/07 had failed. They had to order the part.

December 26, 2007 - part came in - they installed the new catalytic converter - on the way to work when I was accelerating I heard a grinding noise. I had to go back and have them check it out. Turns out that the gasket was bad or they didn't weld the gasket properly - or some lame excuse about the gasket. They should test drive the car after they do work on it.

April 2, 2007 - went back into Midas due to the check engine light again - was charged $60 diagnostic because it was deemed that the Oxygen sensors were the issue which would have cost 444.88 plus tax to install

Went to Autozone and they did a free diagnostic - P0420 came up - which means failed catalytic converter, NOT OXYGEN SENSOR ISSUE

Not only did Midas install a faulty catalytic convert TWICE, but they also charged me for a diagnostic test and didn't even give me the right diagnosis and even tried to have me do more work on parts that are not even faulty.

Went to Autozone that same day and they did a free diagnostic - P0420 came up - which means failed catalytic converter, NOT OXYGEN SENSOR ISSUE

Also had a Toyota appointment for that Saturday - they also diagnosed it as P0420 - catalytic converter efficiency issue.

Not only did Midas install a faulty catalytic convert TWICE, but they also charged me for a diagnostic test and didn't even give me the right diagnosis and even tried to have me do more work on parts that are not even faulty.

Had to jump through hoops to find out who the owner was of the Framingham Midas - only to be told that the Midas Franchise had shuffled around the owners so now the guy who owned the Midas in Framingham now owns the Midas franchises in Westborough, Shrewbury, Marlborough, and some other place around here.

General Manager of those franchises had to look at my car in Marlborough and diagnosed it as P0420 code and agreed to refund me for the work and labor which they should do based on Lemon Laws.

Little did I know that Midas had done irreparable damage to my exhaust manifold. When Toyota actually started working on the car they discovered that the treads were stripped out of the exhaust manifold by Midas costing about $350 in parts.

Midas has still not resolved the issue and they are hoping that I will go away. General Manager said that he was going to contact the owner and see what he had to say. About 2 weeks later still no response - I guess a demand letter is in order, as well as a complaint to the Better Business Bureau and maybe the Attorney General.

The general manager actually had the audacity to say that he thought that Midas never touched the exhaust manifold. Midas in Framingham was the only establishment to work on my exhaust problem prior to Toyota correcting it. Toyota is the only place that I bring my car, other than that lapse in judgment when I brought it to Midas.

At this point this is about principle - they are screwing the general public because they "fix" cars in a half baked way. They use after market parts which do not fit perfectly with the Toyota parts.

These franchises do not know how to fix foreign cars properly. I doubt they even know how to fix American cars properly.
